The Temple Rule of 1129 AD, foundational to the Order, enshrines this, forbidding the elevation of one Templar over another. As emphasized by Saint Bernard de Clairvaux in his praise of the Templars, the Order favors ‘merit rather than noble blood’ and fosters a culture of mutual respect and support.
